About the Work
Paintings 1:
The theme of repetition integral to the drawings continues in the paintings, but
in a more subtle, subversive manner.
Elements in the paintings may be repeated or unique, but each element is painted
with the same colour across the canvas. Then each element is painted again with another
colour on top of the previous colour. This is repeated several times.
Sometimes there is no visible record of these layers of painting—alluding to a kind of pointlessness, but in some cases, around the edges of the elements, the history of the process of layering can be seen. Slithers of colour reveal the process.
